12/13 Holiday Decorations

Hallway Decorations
12/13 Photograph in the Corner
Crook / Peripheral / Reflected

These decorations were on the railing in the condo halls and I had to work at getting the light reflections on the tinsel behind the ribbon. This was not a great week for me and posting pictures the Captureyour365. My husband was in Florida for the week and we were golfing everyday. I was playing catch up with the 365 photos and was too tired to post the pictures in my blog. Not whining, just explaining why I got so behind! On this particular day, we golfed 18 in Cocoa Beach and then got a great deal for another 18 in Viera and we came home during a beautiful sunset to watch the holiday boat parade at a condo party.

12/11 Vintage Christmas

Vintage VW in Christmas Parade
12/11 Photograph Grinch
Grouch / You're a Mean One / Party Pooper

No Grinches here, but I had fun playing with this photo of a decorated VW that was in the holiday parade. The shot to the left is the original RAW file- nothing done to it. For the photo above, I cropped the picture, used Erik Kim Lomo Pop Preset for the color and then took it into Photoshop elements to remove the telephone lines.

12/9 Dolphin Posing

Dolphin Posing
12/9 Photograph At The Lot
Searching / The Tree / Tradition

Way off prompt, but this morning after 24 hours of drizzly rain, the sun brought out the dolphins.  They were in a playful mood and distracted me from my calendar collage work for the morning. After a year of Captureyour365, the camera is ready to go and it has become easier to capture these action shots.  Of course it helps to have dolphins who come this close to the wall where I was standing.

10-22 to 10-31 - Why did I wait so long to update?

9 + 4 + 7 = 20
10/22 Photograph #20
Marker / Sign / Unit

While shopping for a bedspread, my friend and I were looking at the prints and frames when I saw these dice pasted to a board behind a frame. We thought our pictures would be a better choice versus the dice. I then added the dice, got 20, added again and got the same result. Here is my 20 for the day. If you look closely, there's my shadow.

Where I Stand On a Cold, Damp NH Day
10/23 Photograph Where I Stand
Look Down / No Socks / Patio

It was a cold and dreary day during a northeaster kind of day where yoga pants were the fashion statement for the day. I do like the contrast of my colorful new sneakers against the wet, brown oak leaves on my back deck.

Getting Ready for Halloween
10/24 Photograph Sweets
Treat / Candy / Confection

I wasn't home to hand out the Halloween candy so I got it all together for my son and husband to hand out. Of course I checked out the M&Ms to make sure they were okay. I had fun with some free fonts and graphics in photoshop elements to make this shot a little bit spookier.

Raking Fun (Off- Prompt)
10/25 Photograph Costumed
Garb / Guise / Style

True conversation: Me: "I don't remember raking last year, we must not have had a lot of leaves."Husband: " You weren't here, you were in Florida."
I am heading out tomorrow for Florida and leaving the leaves to my husband again if he decides to put the rake down and rake! I did do some raking last weekend, but thanks to the rain, there are more left for my husband. The exercise will be good for him and at least he makes it fun. I goes you could say he has style while raking.

True On The Road Selfie
10/26 Photograph Drive By
Pass By / On the Side / Outside

I was too busy driving to take photos outside the car and I thought this would be a fun picture for our road trip. The iPhone 6 takes great pictures and I have more than enough apps to edit the shots. My sister in law and I left Massachusetts at 5 AM and we were through 4 states already when we hit Delaware at 10:54 AM. We lucked out with great weather and excellent traffic conditions. We made it to Florence, South Carolina by 6:30 that night.

 Savannah Visit
10/27 Photograph My Week
My Calendar / My Everyday / My Details

This week started with me on a road trip south. I guess to follow the theme for the day, I could have taken a picture of the dashboard of my car, but with all the colors of Savannah, why?
Today we are in Savannah where we enjoyed beautiful, warm weather and ice cream at Leopolds while touring the city. My son graduated from SCAD a year ago and it was fun to show my sister in law the sites and to get the best shrimp grits ever!!

In this gray carriage house behind the Sorrel Weed house in Savannah, there is a ghost, or so they say….
My son and I took the tour six years ago after we saw that this house had been on the Ghost Hunters show. Today, I took this shot of the gray carriage house through the fence. I just love all the different terraces, balconies and gardens throughout the historic district of Savannah.

It was our last day here as we on the road again. Hopefully I will stop in Savannah again since I just can't stay away from all those praline samples along with the shrimp grits.

Ghostly / Mysterious / Creepy

We spent the afternoon walking around the historic district of St. Augustine after checking into our Bed and Breakfast which overlooked the bay. And yes, we of course had a Martini at the Tiny Martini bar where we were staying. The next day we took the trolley tour after going in the oldest store of America. I have to admit, the store tour was very cool with some interesting, authentic items. We had too much to do to work out the ghost picture since today's prompt came with instructions for how to take a picture with a ghostly apparition and I would like to do that someday. For now this picture is spooky enough with some post processing to make it even spookier.

Follow these steps to capture a ghost at your house:
  1. a tripod or solid surface
  2. shutter priority mode
  3. ISO 100
  4. shutter speed of 10 seconds
  5. have your subject get in place
  6. push the shutter
  7. after 5 seconds have your subject leave the frame
  8. the shutter will close after 5 more seconds
  9. check your results

Turkey Vulture
10/30 Photograph Raven
Bird / Omen / Pitch

I saw this prompt in the middle of the day and probably could have gotten a picture of a crow while golfing in the morning. This is the grossest bird I have ever seen on the beach here in Florida. I had to look it up on line to figure out that it was a Turkey Vulture. He was enjoying a bunch of fish heads that were on the beach.

Ready for Halloween at the Condo
10/31 Photograph the Loot
Reward / Booty / Spoils

Halloween in Florida is different, there are no leaves rustling in the streets, people can go out as mermaids and not put on two more layers and it's a family night out. This Halloween fell on a Friday night where there was also a football game going on, so there weren't as many people out. On our walk home from my Aunt's we saw the neighbor's cat patiently waiting for more trick or treaters.   Two pictures of candy for Halloween from both my homes, can you tell what my favorite candy is?

10-21 Counting back to 10-14 Catch up

 Jack-O-Lantern At Night
10/21 Photograph Bats
Animal / Winged / Night

No real pumpkins here this year for Jack-O-Lanterns, but I kept this decoration that my mother-in-law gave us. She decorated on all the holidays and putting this up brings back good memories. I had to take more than one picture of this since the first few shots had a cord showing, a good reminder to look around the frame before taking the shot.

Farm Stand Fall Offerings
10/20 Photograph At The Market
Shopping / Farmer's Market / Local

I was happy to go back to the farm stand for more pictures. It was chillier and all of the pumpkins were inside. This time I used the 55-250 lens and carefully looked at the surroundings when taking a shot. In the shot above, I had to move to the left to leave out a blue electrical cord to the right of the pole. The set up of the fruits and vegetables was beautifully done. I left with apple cider, an apple pie for the freezer and macintosh apples. I really wanted the cider donuts…..

Autumn Farm Landscape
10/19 Photograph Return
Arrive / Revisit / Depart

The prompt for a return shot made think about what subject I wanted to retake. There are so many photos of my gardens, that I had to think about another location nearby.  We stopped by the ice cream farm on our way into town for errands. I was able to get closer but there was a lot of brush that had grown up during the summer. There was also a wait for the family that took forever by their mini van, the individuals would have been distracting in the picture. Eyes just seem to be naturally drawn to people, even if they are specks. Once again, it was an over cast day.

Garden Lizard Hanging Around
10/18 Photograph Lingering
Remain / Stick Around / Dawdle

We mowed and raked but left the gardens and our lizard friend for another week. He is still hanging out in the garden. The yard is not as green as it was when the lizard first hit the blog in May.

Yellow Leaf In The Front
10/17 Photograph In The Front
First / Leading / Ahead

The instructions for this prompt was to have a shallow depth of field. Looking around the yard, there were plenty of colorful subjects but since it is Fall and my driveway was a carpet of leaves, the leaves won. I did have to do some maneuvering to get the brightest and most colorful leaf up front.

I also wanted to include the wild mums which are growing out over the lawn. They are colorful, even though they won't last once we get regular frosts.

Funky Yellow Gourds
10/17 Photograph Yellow
Hue / Shades / Bright

I was very glad to have taken so many pictures at the farm stand last week! This basket of gourds caught my eye and I used a HDR preset filter in lightroom for the color and clarity.

It was a day spent in the hospital with no yellow to get a photo. I would have gone for a walk except it was raining and we had no set time when the procedure would be over for my Dad. At least I had my iPhone to keep me busy.

Pumpkins for Sale
10/15 Photograph Pumpkin Time
Gourd / Pumpkin Patch / Home Grown

I was lucky to have this photo in my files from the farm stand last week. My Mom helped me to narrow down the choices since I had so many good pumpkin photos. This is one of my favorites from the day and I was glad that I was able to use it for a CY365 photo. The other option was that I use my iPhone to take pictures of pumpkins on front porches, but why do that when I had a photo in my file that was perfect.  It got chosen as the CY 365 Photo of the Day with the following comment:

"The slightly subdued light really says fall to me, not to mention your subject.  I love the different varieties of pumpkin set up in different ways through the frame. Nice shot."

Mom Checking out the Hospital Reports
10/14 Photograph a Warning
Caution / A Sign / Advice

This is a bit far fetched for the prompt, but I had to work with what I had in front of me. I worked in the morning, but my one objective was to get that done and get down to my dad in the hospital. He had a cardiac event and was in the local hospital. They now post all the reports to an online patient connect which we could look at once we got home. It was a long day and it was good to see that my dad was getting good care.

First Weekend of October

Fall Flower Bokeh
10/3 Photograph Out of Focus
Bokeh / Blurry / Ill-defined

Initially, I was going to use this picture of my next door neighbor's dog, Chloe, but wanted to have more of the dog in the picture. It's kind of hard to get a dog pose, especially one that is bigger than me.  The colors in the background for the dog photo are out of focus and to me, it looks like Chloe is in front of a scenery background similar to those at a store photo studio.

When I got home from the morning walk, I saw the light on the flower above and knew that I could get bokeh while isolating the focus on the flower. And yes, I had to fix a petal and add a texture to soften the background.

Serious, Very Serious Dish Drying
10/4 Photograph a Chore
Routine / Duty / Responsibility

This is the "selfie" for the month, at least the prompt is on a Saturday and I wasn't the only one who took way too many pictures of a chore to get an acceptable picture. The narratives in the Captureyour365 for the day was amusing as we all spent more time on the picture taking than the actual chore. There's plenty I can say about this photo- yes, horizontal stripes do make you look larger, that's my story and I am sticking to it, yes, my kitchen was a bit messy for this photo, but I was in the middle of cooking- Potato Leek soup and Pumpkin bread and it's hard to take a picture of yourself when you are tall and in a narrow space.

Fall Woods Portrait with Bokeh
10/5 Photograph Colored Bokeh
Tinged / Prism / Hued

Yes, another bokeh prompt, but I don't mind since the opportunity to get that sparkly, out of focused background is easy to do with the foliage color plus a sunny day. After a day of drizzle and chores, it was good to get out for a walk in the woods. We were heading up to the Lakes region later on in the day, but we did our little hike (2.4 miles) this morning at the Audubon Society. The last time I was there, it was all snow covered and today we got to enjoy a crisp, fall day. Lucky for me, my husband is good about posing and the bokeh in the picture above is the out of focus lighted leaves in the background.

On our way over to Wolfeboro, we finally went up to a scenic view point on the road that we have passed numerous times, it was worth the stop! Beautiful view of Lake Winnipesaukee.
Peak in a couple of days. View from the east side of the Lake.

Here are few of the shots from today's hike through the woods. ( I do like lightroom for editing faces, now if I could just learn how to get rid of the wrinkles….)

Up close Milkweed shots. I was glad to find a field of these on our walk out of the woods. I have been seeing some of these throughout the state, but never close enough to get a photo.

9/15 - 9/21 September Catch Up

Changes In The Garden
9/15 Photograph Changes
Transformation / Adjustment / Modify

The prompt for today's photo was to capture shadows from changing plants in a garden. I caught everything that was mentioned in the prompt's directions including a bit of the plants and leading lines and curves. I came home tired looking plants.

Such Pitiful, Needy Eyes
9/16 Photograph The Eyes
Expressive / Windows / With Character

Forget pitiful and needy, just call this cat pathetic. They missed us and every time I sat down, there was a cat either next to me or on me. This picture was taken with my iPad and what you can't see is the cat up by my right shoulder. However, this is the prettiest of them all and Stash gets the picture for the day.

Glass Circles
9/17 Photograph A Circle
Bowl / Sphere / Ring

I guess I didn't follow the directions exactly and take a picture of a bowl or a ring, however, these glass marbles were being cleaned were round. After drying the marbles, I used a white poster board for a background and took this picture on the back porch. The white squares in the marbles are the reflections of the windows.

Just a Bit of Blossoms Left in The Garden
9/18 Photograph Between
Time / Amidst / In the Middle

These flowers were initially planted on the edge of the walkway by the door but were too tall and droopy. They were replanted last fall and I was happy to see them flourishing with the corner of the fence. A support was needed since they grow up to four feet tall. The other option for today's photo was this leaf in the grass, but the leaves of Fall will be here for awhile and I just wanted to enjoy the flowers while I can.

Where I stand - By the Campfire
9/19 Photograph Where I Stand
Stance / View / From Above

Here is the monthly Where I stand Photo, I was unable to take it from above, but I did work at getting a a shot with somebody else's feet. We had a campfire on Friday night and it was cold enough that we were all huddled around the fire. I would like to work on getting a better shot and use a flash next time.

Pond Reflection
9/20 Photograph Reflection
Image / Replication / Likeness

On Saturday I brought my camera along during our errands with the plan to stop by the river to get a good reflection shot. The skies were overcast and there was wind making a large reflection shot difficult to get. I did get the shot below with the leaves and the shadows, but wanted a larger photo for interest. After our errands we came home and went to a walk out back by the pond where I got this photo. I like this shot with the colors of the trees reflected in the calm pond.

Family Time
9/21 Photograph Hold On
Embrace / Live / Cling

I admit, this is a slightly posed shot in that I asked my son and husband to take a minute to look at our golf score card for the day. The directions for the day's photo was to catch a family moment from behind. Not enough opportunities for that today as my husband and I golfed in a member-guest tournament with friends. ( We came in first out of three teams….) This doesn't look too posed and I did catch a family moment!
