Trip Down South

It was nice to be able to take a leisurely drive down south versus the drive till you drop trip. Last week, my husband and I took our time heading down to Savannah to move middle guy into an apartment for the summer and school year.
The day before we left, we decided on stopping in Gettysburg to tour the battlefield site and museum to break up our first day of driving. My favorite part of that day was the cyclorama which I at first thought, "yea, whatever" until I listened to the history of the painting, it was incredible. The battlefields are all over Gettysburg with memorials. ( second row of pictures)
On the second day, we drove down the Blue Ridge Parkway for part of our trip to Charlotte through Virginia. (first row of pictures) The rhododendrons were huge, I mean wicked huge and I would love to take the ride when they are in bloom. The views were beautiful up until 10 miles of the end where we were driving through the clouds/fog and couldn't see 10 feet in front of us.
In Savannah, we moved #2 into his apartment and bought some kitchen essentials. Except we forgot the can opener, oops. But he is all settled and hubby and I took a trolley ride around Savannah during our second morning in the city. I would recommend the on and off Old Town Trolley tours. We got off at Forsyth Park to check out the fountain, the Catholic church which was beautiful and of course the square where we bought some pralines. The riverfront we had already explored by foot the day before on our walk from our hotel.
Heading home, we stopped in at Maryland where we saw the Red Sox play the Orioles. The waterfront's Inner Harbor was a good walk after a few hours in the car where we people watched a ton of Boston fans and met up with friends for dinner. It was a wonderful trip and right now it seems weird to walk outside and not feel humidity.
