Manic Monday: Bat

Manic Monday- Bat

Bat, what a great word for October, brings to mind images of spooky, Halloween bats and World Series Baseball. I was going to rant about baseball games anyways and thanks to Morgen, I can use bat to let me express my feelings about the time that baseball games are scheduled during the month of October.

This past Saturday evening, we went over to friend's house to watch the Red Sox play the Cleveland Indians. The game started at 8:30 pm, we left our friends at 11 pm during the sixth inning and I was in bed by the end of the ninth inning at 12:44 am. The game lasted five-hours and 14-minutes. If Major League Baseball thinks that this time is acceptable for a ball game to start, then think about the kids who like to watch the game.

Can someone please explain to me why this game couldn't have started at 7 pm? I understand time differences, but both teams are in the same time zone where most of the viewers are. I wanted to see more players at bat, but guess I should be happy that I was sound asleep when the Red Sox put in Eric Gagne to pitch. Yes, I do yell at the television, it's genetic.

I am hoping for some batting action from our Sox in the next game! Maybe they can end the game at a reasonable time.

Did you all notice that the Boston teams played Cowboys and Indians this weekend?

  2. I don't get why the weekend games have to start so late. Any weekend post season games should be day games. Or at least have late afternoon or early evening starts.

But out here on the west coast we're constantly fighting start times for post season games and MNF. Traffic can really be a pain, and whereas y'all sometimes miss the end of games because they run too late, we often miss the beginning because they start too early!

  3. I don't know anything about baseball playing besides what I have seen in American movies. In Belgium this game is almost not known and I don't know anybody of my son's friends who played it. But for me a bat would be nice to welcome burglers, lol !

  4. I pity those of you on the East Coast trying to watch the NLCS. I was in California over the weekend and the game didn't get over until after midnight THERE. Yikes!

  6. Because it was a Saturday night. I think they moved the time of tonights game to 7:30. Plus in the south, saturday night is football night, or recovering from the hangover from a Saturday tailgate.

  7. Rant away. It's one of my pet peeves. They wonder why attendance keeps falling. Do what we did ... ignore pro except for our absolute favorite team scores the morning after and attend double or triple A team neares you. Better baseball and much cheaper.

  9. I'm not really a sports fan but when I was growing up, I followed religiously the Kansas City Athletics (Later on they became the Oakland Athletics.) farm team in SE Idaho. We kids got knothole T-shirts and if we wore them, got into the games free. Those were the days!

  10. On another MM spot, I just told about my first MLB game. I went to see the Indians play the White Sox this summer. I don't really watch MLB but I love going to the minor league games. My hubby and I used to go to as many Arkansas Traveler games as possible. Sooooo much fun!

  12. Back to answer your ? on my blog. Didn't you click on the top two to see the spider? The top two look like lousy photos until you click on them and enlarge them. You can see the spider there. As for the third one, who knows where it went. Different days, different temperatures affect camera shots I guess but when seen full size, they all three are great.

  16. When my DD was younger, I LOVED the later games. She would be in bed so I could watch the game without interruption.

I don't recall how many games there were Saturday, but I am guessing that game started so late to be sure the NL game had ended so those who would like to watch both could do so.
