Thursday Thirteen #29, 13 Ways to waste money

Another cheat on my part, One Gal over at One Gal's Musing had her thirteen up wicked early and as I glanced through her list of Tips for hanging onto more of what's yours, 13 ways to save money, I thought to myself, self, I know how to waste money and what a great complementary blog to go along with One Gal. If you do what she says and not do what I say, then you should end up with more money. Now if you resemble any of the following, fear not, I have first hand experience with a few of them, it's just if you do all of the thirteen then it might just cost you.

  1. Buy a large coffee everyday at Starbucks and if it takes you more than 1 minute to describe what you want then it's worth every penny.

  2. Buy a scone or 10 inch tall coffee cake to go along with your coffee.

  3. Get yourself a nordic track anything, they make perfect clothes hangers in your bedroom after you have completed your exercise program.

  4. When you want a car, lease the biggest one they got on the lot with all the accessories, Dvd player, OnStar, and seat warmers even if you live in Florida, you are worth it!

  5. If your kids need sneakers, go for the brands endorsed by NBA or Football stars, particularly if they are in middle school and still growing.

  6. Buying a pet...forget about those animals at the shelters or rescue organizations, go for the $1500 designer dog. Because it will look good.

  7. Don't bother waiting for sales, because if you want something, you should get it now because it might not be there tomorrow.

  8. The only way to travel is first class, because you get to see where you are going before the people in the back of the plane and cloth napkins are so much gentler on the skin.

  9. Credit cards were meant to be used often! It's okay to keep that balance, it will make your credit look good.

  10. Appearances are important, so make sure you get your hair trimmed every four weeks.
11. Looking for something to read? Go buy a book or join a book club.

12. Bored? Buy a few magazines at the checkout in the supermarket.

13. Your lucky day could be any day now, buy at least 5 lottery tickets every week.

  3. You are deliciously evil, Jenny!!! I love it! (and good point at my place about the groupies/girls thing. Would you believe I came up with that list last week, as I was moderating groupie comments?? And never thought to use groupie instead of girl.)

Yeah, I know. One word is good.

LOLOL, what a funny list! And I love what you said about the nordic track machines being great clothes hangers.

Happy T13, and thanks for visiting mine.

  7. I saw The Gal's list too -- ! And I love your list, but must add just one thing. You don't need to get a pedigree animal to spend $$$$$$$. Any stray cat off the street will cost you about a good $1000 right off the bat for shots, neutering, flea dip, antibiotics, teeth cleaning, blood work, litter pan and litter, food, crunchy and soft, bed, toys, scratching post, and cat nip. What's that line? There's no such thing as a free pet!!
    great TT!

  8. Let's see now … #7 - GUILTY, #9 -- GUILTY (went shopping at lunchtime & anded up with a 3 CD set that included two songs I simply had to have), #10 -- GUILTY (but at least I don't color it anymore), #13 -- GUILTY (but don't worry, I'll remember you when my numbers come up).

PS Did you see I tagged you?

  9. LOL! I don't do any of the things on your list (except maybe #11), but I'm still not saving any money. I'd better go visit One Gal's list for more help...

  15. Love it.

Iced coffees are my downfall. I could probably refinance a small third world country for what I spend on iced coffee each summer...

  16. Guilty, guilty, guilty- I fell in love with the McDonald's ice coffee this summer!

Oops. I'm guilty of a few and a few more. It's a fun premise to play with.

  19. I admit I am a magazine Junkie, I just waste the money on monthly binges then weekly.

    scones are so good though

  20. I wish I didn't have to be guilty of #11. Our public libraries were closed this year due to county budget cuts. Nothing like living in a town with no library... it sucks.

I'm guilty of #3 and #10! I'll go read One Gal's list to see if I can offset some of my bad habits.

  21. Great list - I admit I am guilty of one or two. I tend to buy double if I know it's on sale as I think of all the savings. I know it saves in the end but do I really need 8 bottles of Listerine just because it's buy one get one free?

i'm off to buy some lottery tickets. LOL. good list!

  23. Nicholas beat me to it. Except for the book I bought about the rebuilding of London after the fire which turned out to be a tract by a writer a little too obsessed with geometry, conspiracies and his own place in the cosmos. What he missed was that archives won't let anyone take out 300 year old documents not just him and that coincidences happen. (I feel better now).

    Great TT :-)

LOL! Those are good ways to nickel and dime yourself. ANd, sometimes it is just fun to do so.

LOL great list! I now see the light on where all my money is going!

  26. Good thing I came back here to tell you I'd forgotten to mention I'd noticed the TT banner you'd used today. I think that's the most popular one I've made. I forgot to leave a link in the linky box. Nothing like writing a comment in the morning when you're already late.

    ReplyDelete
  27. ROFLMAO! That's too funny! Too bad it is so much more fun to spend than save! :)

    Happy TTing!

  28. Well, I already visited this post once today, but I'm back again to ask if you'd like to answer some questions? Tag... you're it! :-)

Well, with this list, at least I know I an not a waster. I even hate Starbucks! and as much as possible I won't rely on plastic money (Credit card).

Great list though, an eye opener really!

  30. Don't forget I tagged you. If you respond with your next post, then I can proudly say I will have provided you with three entries in a row. :)

EEK! You should have a "scoring system" on this one, I think I'd make a pretty high score! Good list. Great way to make me feel guilty about my coffee!

  32. LOL....great list! I needed a chuckle this a.m., and you gave me one! Thanks for that!!

And if you live in Florida (and I did) and have the seat warmers, it's really fun to turn the driver's seat warmer on before he/she gets in the 100 degree car and see how long it takes him/her to realize it!
