Please Help, Something has Happened to my Kids

I first noticed the change yesterday, I walked in from work and there were a few dishes and soda cans lying around. All it took was one comment and they were taken care of. That's right, one, not two, three....and the comment was in a calm voice. So maybe that was just a blip, then my neighbor called for help with some patio furniture in her car, she asked me, but I told her that the boys could help. I went in and asked them if they could help Mrs. O when they got a chance and they said in a minute...and then they went over and helped. That's right, they went over on their own without a reminder.

It got really scary at dinner when I snuck an extra stalk of broccoli on their plates, the three of them were civil to each other and ate the entire dinner without a single derogatory comment. I didn't know what to do, so I asked them for help with my Thursday 13 and the following conversation remained pleasant. Their suggestions weren't the best, as you can tell, I didn't do the list of 13 different farts. But I was not sure who abducted my children during the day. Is there an invasion of the goodies going on? The good behavior lasted all evening, I went over to my neighbor's to oooh, aah and hang out on her new chairs on her deck (BTW Target has a clearance sale on outdoor stuff). When I returned, all three of my boys were draped over the furniture in one room watching the same show. Nobody was talking over the show and they were laughing at each other's comments. It was my fantasy world of everyone getting along and it was wonderful.

This morning, it was back to normal when one son went to work with the keys to the car left at home. Dad has been doing the grand tour of the southern states this week and took his keys, so we were a set down. I got the call at work and had to coordinate getting the keys to home, yea for neighbors. All is still pretty good and I could get used to this living in harmony, but I will take it one day at a time.

  1. And when they are all gone, you will miss their bad habits too . .

  2. I love when things like this happen with my kids, although, it kind of makes me a little bit nervous. Once I'm sure that I'm just not getting the "buttered up" act, I can relax and enjoy the moment. Yes, moment, it doesn't usually last much longer than that :)

  4. I would say this is impossible, but then it depends on how old they are. I got along with my brother as soon as we spent hours together in cars going back and forth to school, so that was 17 and 15

  5. That's it I need you to send me a bottle of your NH tap water. There must be something in there, and I NEED it desperately!

That's great that they are getting along - I know in our house when it happens it is such a rare thing, and it makes me do a double take. Enjoy it for as long as it lasts.

For some reason I thought most of the problems I had were that they are opposite sexes. I thought if I had, two boys or two girls that the problems wouldn't be this bad. I guess it's just a sibling thing.

  6. Enjoy days like this...they are few and far between! My kids are 17 and 11 (boy and girl) and when the stars align properly, the date is an even number and Saturn is in the 7th house of Usher, peace descends. Otherwise, WATCH OUT!
Great blog -- really enjoyed it!

  7. How's the weather there? Could they be crazy from the heat? Could humidity have seeped in and soddened their high spirits? Could this be an alien abduction? And -- most of all -- can we look forward to the 13 different farts? (I can only think of 3!)

  8. Yea, well I might get desperate some day and do the list of the 13 farts...it may be a reach.

So, now I will fess up and say that they were pretty happy that they figured out how to get World of Warcraft on the slow computer to work and can now play together. They spent that whole day downloading and working through some technical problems with the anti-virus software. They ended up doing well working out the tech stuff and it was nice to step back and let them do it on their own.

  12. I'm with The Gal herself - I want the 13 Different Farts TT. We had 'The Fart Book' when I was in high school that I got at a joke-y shop, and I can tell you we laughed until we thought we were going to expire.

  13. Having had six brothers - a husband from a family of 4 brothers and a sister that may as well be a brother - and a son that thinks he must make up for the fact that he comes from this long line of absurd numbers of brothers... there are indeed AT LEAST 13 farts...

that being said... relish the moment, (I'm sure it's gone, this post is a week old)... my three 14, 15, 16 (the boy is in the middle btw) have done that more this summer than in past years... frankly it freaks me out so bad I can't sleep nights...I keep wondering what did they break?, am I going to get a call from some angry neighbor or worse yet the authorities?, are they doing evil things?, and then they come back to normal... saying nasty things to each other, acting all put out at having to share the same air, being selfish, arguing about what to watch/do/eat, etc. And I sigh an enormous sigh of relief and change the subject to things like 13 farts!

All I can say is don't bother searching for the reason, because even if the same conditions return, they won't repeat if for those reasons. But, when you are least expecting it, you may be treated to one more day - like that.
