Beach time with Reluctant Teens

Silly me, I didn't bring my camera with me to the beach. I wouldn't have been able to take many pictures there because of the thick fog. However, on the way home the clouds to the north were dark and I would have gotten a cool shot over a marsh. We didn't get to the coast until after 1pm, but when you're dragging two 14 year olds along who don't want to be with you, at least we got out. It wasn't until we were 2 miles from the beach that I saw the thermometer in my car drop 10 degrees and once at the shore, we couldn't see the water.

My friend called around 10 am this morning while I was watching a chick mini series on USA, I never got the name, but she knew it as "The Starter Wife" and I am thinking it's a movie so I planned on leaving around 12. I told her to have her daughter bring a friend, since my son was planning on calling some one to go also. Alas, none of their friends were able to go, so we literally had to drag them along. Heaven forbid that members of the opposite sex in eighth grade spend time with each other without a gaggle of kids. They do get along and it was fine having them along. Both are our third and we tease them that they are our favorites. As we told them today, times like today are the stupid things you remember most as an adult, the times spent with parents without the siblings and your parent being silly. ( So I was throwing cherry pits at them....) I would have been in the huge waves if we had some sun, still just a tad too cool for me to be in the water.

Since I wasn't able to finish the mini series, I want to get the book,The Starter Wife , it looks like it will be a good mindless read for the summer. Right now I am reading a book about the high cost of medical care in the United States. It's not the most entertaining book, but it's informative. We can go around the the issues of affordable health care, but I strongly believe that within the next five years, it will become a crisis in this country. Based on what I am seeing with health insurance, we will be paying more for less care. What good is being technologically advanced, if the average person can't afford to pay their medical bills?

  1. I just got back from a trip to the beach with my almost 15 year old daughter, her friend, my 10 year old neice (who is taller than all of us, btw) and my 9 year old son.

We had such a good time! And thank goodness, I did bring my camera and lots of SPF 15 lotion. It was hot, hot, hot even in the late afternoon. We all had a great time, including some laughs that I plan to share on my blog soon.

I swear, my neice is the type of girl that says just what she's thinking. We usually have her all summer...she's practically like my own child...however, I tend to forget just how outspoken and truthful she can be. Just when I thought I'd broken my kids of being truthful, along she comes! Haha! :)

I truly think I need time away from the routine of my life to really live again. Thank God for vacations!

Enjoyed this post, as I do all of your posts no matter when I stop by. Hope you have a great weekend!

It was just like being there, reading this post! We went to the ocean for my birthday a couple of weeks ago. I would happily live there -- I love the fresh air.

  3. I've gotten to the point where I need to strap my camera on first thing in the morning.

It never fails that something happens or I see something that I'm saying where's my camera! It has become so much a part of my life that I sometimes wish it was strapped to my head.

  4. "The Starter Wife" was a perhaps a mini series. I think there were 6 episodes. Much better than I expected. Funny and poignant at the same time.

I love those silly days with kids. Even when they get bigger. Your kids will remember it when they get older, and probably cherish that memory.
As for medical care, I don't even want to think about it! For three years I lived with no medical insurance. I had pneumonia three times, and wouldn't get the proper treatment for it, because I couldn't pay for it! It's too scary to think about.
