J's Blogging Limerick Contest

Time for the first J's Blog Limerick Contest

There once was a musing blog written by Jen
Who thought of contests that anyone could pen
From a story to haiku
What could a blogger do?
And a limerick contest was begun by Jen

The rules are clean and simple: Write a limerick about your blog. What makes you unique among bloggers? What do you think makes you stand out? Write about that. I have four non-blogging judges lined up, two friends, one who is a teacher and the other who reads just as much as I do and my husband and my son. My son is very opinionated, does improv and both he and my husband have a dry sense of humor. (Just letting you all know who your audience is).

Prizes will be awarded for : 1- The Wittiest, Funniest 2- Best Advertisement for the Blog (makes you want to read the blog) 3- Random Draw.

The prizes will be: 1- Matching Beaded Earrings and Necklace, 2- $10 Borders Gift Certificate, 3- $10 itunes gift card.

To enter:
  1. Write a Limerick about your blog in a post following the rules for writing a limerick from my Thursday 13 post. ( five lines, aabba rhyming)
  2. In that post, please use one of the two images for the limerick contest.
  3. Link back to my Blog: J's Thoughts and Musings
  4. Comment in any of my posts, since I get comments emailed to me.
  5. I will then put a link to your limerick post in the limerick box on the right sidebar.
  6. Plus I will post the limericks in my blog with links back to your blog.
  7. Contest Deadline: All Limericks must be submitted by Sunday, June 17th.
Now I know it's tempting to write an original bawdy (naughty) limerick, but please write one that you would let your mother read.

Limerick Inspiration: Puss Reboots gave me a great link yesterday to OEDILF- The Omnificent English Dictionary In Limerick Form. On this site, people write limericks for words in the dictionary, who would have thought of that one? Very creative!

Rhyming Help: Rhyme Zone, I have had this site bookmarked for years and used it when I was teaching.

Thank you to Shelly from This Eclectic Life who designed the images for this contest with a picture of sea glass that I sent to her.

Keep those fingers counting out the syllables and have fun with rhyming.

  1. Well I feel stupid. I am going to have to think REALLY hard for this one. Got 2 questions:

1.) What grade/subject does the teacher teach?

2.) How old is your son?

  2. My son is 19, basically a 78 y/o man ranting in a 19 y/o body. Knows all the words to most movies, particularly The Office and Star Wars movies and is a political junky.

The teacher used to be a first grade teacher and now teaches special ed. in a large high school, well, large by NH standards.

  3. Fun idea! I'm not much of a poet so I'm glad you've got the "random draw" category ;-)

My attempt can be found here.

  4. This is so much fun. I am learning more as I go. So far I've written 4, but I keep trying to tweak them. I hope to have my post up this afternoon.

I know I learned this stuff in school, but I must have filed it under file #13. Anyway, it's been a fun thing to learn to do.

Now I am counting syllables like a maniac...lol!

  5. Mine is now up - I had a ton of fun doing this. I had no idea if I could but I managed to do it and write 3 extra for fun.

  6. It's going to take some doing, some thinking and lots of crumpled paper thrown on the floor with dramatic flair...but I will be competing...ooh fun, I love a challenge!

  29. Oh, wow, does this look like fun! I haven't written a limerick since grade school, but here goes nothing! ;) Thanks for the time you've dedicated to making this contest a reality! I've enjoyed it! (I'm not positive that I got the syllables exactly right....but I gave it a shot. Either way, I'll learn something and I had to use my brain, which can't be a bad thing! It gets kinda dusty sometimes... ;)
