1. #1 son's Macbook suffered a liquid spill at college this weekend, that call came early Saturday morning. We picked him up very early Saturday morning (see #4 below) and got the hard drive out. Many discussions surrounding this event and the diagnosis is that it is dead and applecare does not protect against liquid damage.
2. #2 and #3 sons' gaming computer had issues staying on this weekend. That went into the shop yesterday and Thank God it is under warranty. I almost asked the guys at the store to keep it a few extra days so more homework and less World of Warcraft....alas, I can pick it up tomorrow.
3. Back to #1's computing dilemma.....now what to do? Another macbook or a pc....supposedly you can get a warranty on some laptops for liquid damage...has anybody heard of this? Any recommendations?
4. 2 high school track meets this week, last Saturday and today. Yea, #2 came in third in discus today. Plus they did a buffalo relay where the throwers ran against each other, only our team did it, but I think the other two teams would have done it also, based on the competition or lack of , both our teams disqualified. It was a lot of fun and everyone enjoyed the race.
5. Middle school track meet yesterday in a town about 25 miles south of us. Not the most organized meet and I got to be the fill in coach. The best part was being the "bad cop" and yelling at the 45 kids to be quiet while the other coach was talking. My son told me to tone it down and one of the younger kids came up to me and said, "Mrs. B, I have been telling everyone that you are really, a very nice lady." He totally made my day. But I just hate the yapping......gee, maybe that's why I left teaching?
6. Okay, so now that you won't have this bad opinion of me, I actually consoled the crying girl's captain and encouraged many of the newer runners. It's funny to think of me "coaching a track team" considering my inability to run.
7. Tomorrow I am assisting with the middle school track practice tomorrow, I have already been given instructions by my #3 son that I can lighten up.
8. I am so close to finishing my Lab services handbook at work and need all the time I can get to finish the edits.
9. Book from #8 is now in my director's office since we are due for an unannounced inspection which should be within the next two weeks. You can feel the tension building.
10. I have had to share my laptop this week, sometimes I don't share well.
11. I went to the library last week and have been reading. I used to be able to read as late as I wanted to, now I can't keep my eyes open. Can you imagine my frustration with this part of getting old?
12. Worries about my kids with the end of the first year of college for one, my second guy thinking a dodge neon is an appropriate car to go four wheeling in and having my baby turn 14 this weekend. It was easier when they were younger ( my guys are the ends and the middle in this picture taken 13 years ago)
13. Wish the 13th was that I am spending more time exercising, but I am thinking about it and that's better than nothing, or so I keep saying to myself.

I can't imagine having to share my laptop. Granted I do pass on my leavings (old laptop when I get a new one) to my hubby rather nicely, but otherwise it's hands of the new toy!
ReplyDeleteOh, you have had a rough week. Your babies are so handsome...don't you hate that they are growing up? And, that "liquid spill." MMmmmMMM! I think I can understand why you enjoyed being "bad cop!" I can't believe that sweet jennymcb was bad cop!
ReplyDeleteI spent a week with the other coach in Denmark with a group of high school kids. Bad cop/good cop was a coping skill that kept the kids on their toes, but still gave us a chance to be there for them.
ReplyDeleteWhoa, you sound REALLY busy! I had a liquid spill onto a laptop once, and since it was hot coffee, OF COURSE it leaped from the laptop to my lap, which flung me backwards in my chair, which clunked my head on the floor... so your son could have had it worse! ;)
ReplyDeletetake a deep breath! woah! i am tired now after reading this! hope your thursday can be a bit of less thinking technical and more dreamy thoughts? perhaps you need to come see my palm trees?:)
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you've had a very busy week. When I was in college, my laptop suffered a liquid spill too, but thankfully I got it shut down imediately before any major damage was done, I let it dry out for a week or so, and then I was able to get it running again with the aid of the recovery discs.
ReplyDeleteHope the rest of the week goes better for you.
Thanks for visiting my list.
Hi, Jenny! Sounds like you've had a wild week. I had to live without my laptop for several weeks last year when my hard drive died. It was tough, I've gotta say!
ReplyDeleteYour kiddos are really cute. :) And ugh, I hear you on the exercise -- it's been really hot here and hard for me to get my butt moving.
Happy TT, and thanks for visiting my blog!
i love the picture!
ReplyDeleteWhat cute kids - and how fast they grow! My oldest graduates from High School and my youngest begins high school in the fall...and she's getting into boys now....Yowza!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of a spillage warranty, but that would be ideal. I've spilled many a beverage on my keyboard - Once I spilled a whole glass of pop on my keyboard and I took the whole thing apart with q-tips and rubbing alcohol and saved it...I did wonder though why I didn't just buy a new one!
Well I can certainly understand why you may not be feeling as creative as usual this week!
ReplyDeleteI believe the handbook says that when it comes to laptops one is free of sharing obligations.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to sound like a total geek, but here goes...they're called lids and they are the best insurance against liquid spills I've come across. *just sayin*
ReplyDeleteFour wheelin' in a Dodge Neon, sounds like my kinda driving. I had an intense relationship with a man who lived off the grid, high in the mountains and drove my sporty coupe through mud, snow, creeks and over boulders to get to his house. I wasn't going to see what was there...I knew.
I just posted my first TT...this stuff is going to get habit forming if I'm not careful.
Sounds like you've had a rough week. I bet you are looking forward to some relaxation?
ReplyDeleteHello - they all sound like pretty good reasons to me!
ReplyDeleteHappy TT and I hope you sort this stuff out... kids and computers...
Its always strange how you find your thirteen...
ReplyDeleteIt will all work itself out. It always does:)
ReplyDeleteMy laptop is mine when I'm home, but when I'm at work I know my husband uses it. I'd be lost without it now!
ReplyDeleteI hope things settle down for you this weekend. :)
Buffalo Relays are hilarious. I have never heard of a laptop having a liquid damag warranty, though if its going to live in a dorm room, I would think someone would have it. I don't share well either
ReplyDeleteLove the photo, its scary looking back and realize the years have screamed by and the sone you looked down to speak to now has you stretching your neck.
ReplyDeletethose are all good reasons..hope you have a better week next week
ReplyDeleteThanks for signing up for the scavenger hunt..We have had some great finds so far and if you havent started, there is time to catch up!!!
I'm a Starter with Athletics Alberta so hearing about track always perks my ears up :o) Great thursday thirteen list!
ReplyDeleteI need a nap after reading your list....
ReplyDeleteOh, what a rough week! I wouldn't be thinking of topics for my thirteen either.
ReplyDeleteMy DD will be 14 this month as well. Where in the world has that time gone?
Thanks for your encouragement at my blog. Your list reminded me of when my boys were that age. Very busy! Track meets--Give me a basketball game any day!Precious pic of your little boys who have grown up--almost!
ReplyDeleteTough and rough week, eh? I hope everything will be settled soon. It's a pain when liquid spills onto sensitive stuff such as laptops, considering it's a Mac. Ouch! :(
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday!
Gah...! That's all pretty ugly. What is it with everyone having technology issues this past week? (/checks to see if Mercury's in retrograde)
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of computers with warranties that protect against liquid damage. I think Dell might have some such warranty - I've seen the TV ads that show a party in a student's dorm room, and some dancing schmoe knocks a laptop off a desk...but you might also check into keyboard protector skins for laptop keyboards. Keeps out crumbs, dust, lint, liquids. (I know that these exist for regular keyboards. I don't know if they exist for laptop keyboards.) That might be a less costly solution than paying for a warranty against spilled coffee/water/tea/what have you. (However, any software you or your son bought for his Macbook would not work in any Dell computer. They're Bill's biyotches - Windoze boxes all the way.)
wow! you've got a lot on your mind this week!
ReplyDeletewhat a sweet pic of the boys. amazing how fast they grow up, isn't it?!
thanks for stopping by!
Well holy cow, Jenny, it's no wonder why you weren't creative this week. That list was a killer!
ReplyDeleteI hope this coming week is far more calm and relaxing for you. :-)
Whoa whoa whoa...it was easier when the boys were younger? Hooboy, I'm in trouble, I keep hoping and praying it'll get easier as they get older! whimper...
