No real pumpkins here this year for Jack-O-Lanterns, but I kept this decoration that my mother-in-law gave us. She decorated on all the holidays and putting this up brings back good memories. I had to take more than one picture of this since the first few shots had a cord showing, a good reminder to look around the frame before taking the shot.

I was happy to go back to the farm stand for more pictures. It was chillier and all of the pumpkins were inside. This time I used the 55-250 lens and carefully looked at the surroundings when taking a shot. In the shot above, I had to move to the left to leave out a blue electrical cord to the right of the pole. The set up of the fruits and vegetables was beautifully done. I left with apple cider, an apple pie for the freezer and macintosh apples. I really wanted the cider donuts…..

The prompt for a return shot made think about what subject I wanted to retake. There are so many photos of my gardens, that I had to think about another location nearby.  We stopped by the ice cream farm on our way into town for errands. I was able to get closer but there was a lot of brush that had grown up during the summer. There was also a wait for the family that took forever by their mini van, the individuals would have been distracting in the picture. Eyes just seem to be naturally drawn to people, even if they are specks. Once again, it was an over cast day.

We mowed and raked but left the gardens and our lizard friend for another week. He is still hanging out in the garden. The yard is not as green as it was when the lizard first hit the blog in May.

The instructions for this prompt was to have a shallow depth of field. Looking around the yard, there were plenty of colorful subjects but since it is Fall and my driveway was a carpet of leaves, the leaves won. I did have to do some maneuvering to get the brightest and most colorful leaf up front. 

I also wanted to include the wild mums which are growing out over the lawn. They are colorful, even though they won't last once we get regular frosts.

I was very glad to have taken so many pictures at the farm stand last week! This basket of gourds caught my eye and I used a HDR preset filter in lightroom for the color and clarity. 

It was a day spent in the hospital with no yellow to get a photo. I would have gone for a walk except it was raining and we had no set time when the procedure would be over for my Dad. At least I had my iPhone to keep me busy.

I was lucky to have this photo in my files from the farm stand last week. My Mom helped me to narrow down the choices since I had so many good pumpkin photos. This is one of my favorites from the day and I was glad that I was able to use it for a CY365 photo. The other option was that I use my iPhone to take pictures of pumpkins on front porches, but why do that when I had a photo in my file that was perfect.  It got chosen as the CY 365 Photo of the Day with the following comment: 

"The slightly subdued light really says fall to me, not to mention your subject.  I love the different varieties of pumpkin set up in different ways through the frame. Nice shot."

This is a bit far fetched for the prompt, but I had to work with what I had in front of me. I worked in the morning, but my one objective was to get that done and get down to my dad in the hospital. He had a cardiac event and was in the local hospital. They now post all the reports to an online patient connect which we could look at once we got home. It was a long day and it was good to see that my dad was getting good care.

The directions for this prompt was to photograph a stranger, but I wasn't in the mood to include a stranger on my blog or in my 365 print book that I plan on making at the end of the year. This is a photo of my photographer friend T from our photo field trip up to the White Mountains and Maine earlier in the week. This was all about taking a picture with a lot of green in it up close and taking the exposure down 2/3s in manual to expose for the green. There I was sitting in my driveway to take this picture. I like the lighting of the clover with the brown leaf in the foreground. 

Prominent Black Eyed Susan

Leading lines was the composition suggestion for today's prompt and the petals of this flower lead the eyes to the center. In the garden right now, there are a few of these Black Eyed Susan's still looking good along with the Star flowers, Phlox and now the mums.  This mum is the product of planting one of the pots from another year. They don't have the tight buds that you see on the store bought flowers. If you don't cut these back, which I don't, then they get tall and gangly looking. However, a flower is a flower and I will take pictures of any flower!

The prompt for today was suppose to take place at the end of the day in the golden hour, but there wasn't going to be a golden hour with the weather. The picture above is off prompt and boosted a bit in Lightroom 5 with a foliage preset. 

Today I went on another foliage photo ride, this time with my friend S and we drove through the Monadnock region. The weather was suppose to be clearer in the western part of the state, but it remained overcast and we made the best of the day. We had a route in mind, but kept more to the general direction heading south west through the state. We saw three very New England looking town centers with big white churches, old grave yards and even a town center decorated with scare crows. There were a few photo opportunities and we took advantage of being able to stop at anytime to take photos. And yes, I have to agree with the lady who stopped her car at one of the parks we were at to say, " You need a blue sky!".  But the benefit to an overcast day is that we didn't have to worry about shadows in our shots.

Farewell / Final / Seasons Changing

I hurried over to the Merrimack River hoping to get a shot of the sun setting with light reflecting off the capital, but I missed it. What little light there was had left by the time I got to the spot, there was not much of a sunset to be seen. This shot above is from my first sail at the beginning of September. It is a good representation of the seasons changing as this was taken after Labor Day and there are no other boats on the lake.

The instructions for this prompt was to take a picture of a television screen. Who are you watching? Modern Family is one of my favorite shows, it's ridiculous with a good ensemble, just a fun show. I had not caught the first season and started watching after it started winning Emmys. I wanted to see what it was all about. Now I just watch rerun after rerun and was looking forward to new season, I was not disappointed last night.

This prompt was a tough one trying to find the number one. When I add my snack in the afternoon, I noticed the #1 on the milk and I set up the shot. I used the macro lens at a higher aperture to get more detail. Back to counting calories and logging on MyFitnessPal which means I get to my nutritional values for the day. Calcium is lacking and besides a multivitamin pill, I try to get a glass of milk in during the day.

Today was my annual foliage ride up to the White Mountains with my friend T where we take foliage pictures and then go over to my aunt's cottage in Maine. We help her put away the outdoor furniture and then enjoy lunch. Before I even saw the prompt for today, I had asked T to come over early to get an early start to our drive and to perhaps get some early morning shots on our ride. There were no daybreak shots because it was foggy in our part of the state.

We hit the jackpot when we got to Lake Chocura where the mountain was rising above the mist with the reflections on the water of the sky, mountain and foliage. We had to take quick shots because the mist was burning off.

Turned out to be a perfect picture for the day and we got a bunch of great shots. Since we went up a week earlier than we have gone up in the past, the foliage wasn't very good. Although on the west side of the Kancamagus highway, we did stop to get a couple of foliage shots that had some pop to it. Nothing like last year though, but at least this year's photo field trip will be remembered for the morning mist shots.
